NINA IN JAPAN 2004

  REPORT FROM JAPAN

Tama, February 11, 2004

A Friend of Nina in Japan sent this flash review:

I have just returned home from the first day of the Nina's "Japan Tour 2004"! In a word, it's just fantastic!!!

At the beginning, there was some delay. Girls sitting beside me were impatient. But when "Green", the Part 1, was over and the curtain went down, the girls were so excited and happy with the wonderful performance! What a change! I very much liked the "Green" too, which is very lyrical and beautiful in movements. Nina was so romantic. Her movements are just like flows of a fresh stream. Her movements were very "clean" and natural. And Filin was stylish as usual. Belogolovtsev was strong. (He always reminds me of my Russian friend Yelena's boy friend. It's funny that they are so resemble each other.)

In "Second before the Ground", I liked Lia Kandelaki, who danced positively and cheerfully. Petrova looked a little bit tired, but was still very elegant. Palshina and Klevtsov were neat as they always are. And, Filin! He is always a "prince" to me!

Uvarov was just gorgeous in "Swan Lake! His Siegfried has everything that the role requires, I think. He was extremely dynamic with jumps, and very delicate in expressing his emotions at the same time. And the partnership with Nina was also wonderful! Do I have to mention again how gorgeous Nina was as both Odette and Odile? I can't forget the look on her face when Odile was waiting for Siegfried to choose her and to swear it. Nina was really an expressive "actress"! She has speed and elegance and everything!! And, I liked the thoughtful ending of the Swan Lake, which was fresh and sophisticated.

Nina should have been very tired after the performance, but she was so kind that she smiled and greeted to each and every fan waiting there. I was really touched with her kindness and generosity.

Marylis, I read your essay in the program in Japanese today. I thought it has been translated nicely. I feel that your message conveys both your love for Nina and how wonderful Nina is as a ballerina and as a person. It is really interesting for all the fans, I think.

Well, that's it for today. I was so much moved with Nina's performance today that I just couldn't help telling you my impressions. Thank you for reading!

Warmest regards,

Waka
