NINA & THE STATE BALLET OF GEORGIA

"And yet green shoots have started to appear. One of the clearest signs is the State Ballet of Georgia, which has been transformed since its new director, the former Bolshoi prima ballerina Nina Ananiashvili, arrived last April. She has called in favours from her foreign contacts, introduced teachers from Moscow and modernised the repertoire. The consensus is that she has made something out of nothing: the Tbilisi public has discovered that ballet can be done in a quicker, cheaper and more interesting way than before. Morale has rocketed."
